Description: The Westside Family Resource and Empowerment Center (WFREC) is staffed by experienced parents and family members of individuals with disabilities or special needs diagnosis. Through personal experience and extensive training, staff are equipped to provide information and navigational support to families who have a child or loved one, of any age, with a disability, chronic illness or special learning need. We also provide resources and training to educators, professionals, and community members to ensure a comprehensive understanding of best practices related to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Our services and programs include: Parent to Parent Support, 1:1 Guidance, Trainings and Workshops, Online Learning, Community Navigators, Parent Support Groups, Community Outreach, and more.

What are Family Empowerment Centers (FECs)?

Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. These nonprofit organizations offer specialized training, peer-to-peer support, information and referral services. They assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals. Services available through each FEC vary based on the needs of the community.
