Description: Our mission is to help children with special needs achieve their full potential by empowering their families and the professionals who serve them through information, support, and resources. We have a resource library at each site with the largest at our Watsonville location, bilingual English/Spanish staff at each site, and our Watsonville and Hollister office have conference rooms for larger group meetings. We offer information and referral, mentor program, support groups, Early Start Family Resource Center, IEP Clinics, Educational workshops and training, networking, and more. Our Watsonville office is located in the same building as the SELPA office. We are able to assist families with their educational questions and important documents and they can go right downstairs to the SELPA office to continue moving forward in supporting their child.

What are Family Empowerment Centers (FECs)?

Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. These nonprofit organizations offer specialized training, peer-to-peer support, information and referral services. They assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals. Services available through each FEC vary based on the needs of the community.
