Description: Rainbow Connection FEC supports families with students receiving Special Education services or who might benefit from support, resources, and information. Some of the support we provide includes training and information on the IEP process. We provide online IEP basic training, one-on-one meetings with families to help them better understand terminology in the document, and we attend IEPs with family members. We provide a class focused on record keeping which includes a free notebook and forms to help keep organized. We assist with navigating referrals for services and accessing language support. We collaborate with local agencies and community-based organizations co-training together and serving on committees. We offer many different support groups for parents allowing them to connect with other families. Our support groups are available in person in the Rainbow offices and in the community as well as on Zoom in English and in Spanish. They are disability specific and general support as well.

What are Family Empowerment Centers (FECs)?

Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. These nonprofit organizations offer specialized training, peer-to-peer support, information and referral services. They assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals. Services available through each FEC vary based on the needs of the community.
