Description: The mission of Parents Helping Parents is to help children and adults with disabilities receive the support and services they need to reach their full potential by providing information, training, and resources to build strong families and improve systems of care. Parents Helping Parents (PHP) is a nonprofit organization that provides information, training, individual assistance, and resources. PHP is not a law firm or legal service agency. Staff and programs are also available in Spanish and Vietnamese. We serve all ages and all disabilities.

Some highlighted programs include: Connections California, a comprehensive hub dedicated to transition to adulthood. PHP@IEP offers to prepare and accompany a parent to their IEP meeting. PHP is an Assistive Technology demonstration and training site. PHP offers weekly support groups to families stressed by their parenting role, facilitated by licensed therapists, in English and Spanish.

What are Family Empowerment Centers (FECs)?

Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. These nonprofit organizations offer specialized training, peer-to-peer support, information and referral services. They assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals. Services available through each FEC vary based on the needs of the community.
