Description: Challenged Family Resource and Empowerment Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a supportive community through its Parent-to-Parent support approach. At the core of our mission lies the commitment to empower families facing unique challenges. Our center builds on the strength of these families, as our team is composed of parents who themselves have children with disabilities. By offering a space for shared experiences, knowledge exchange, and emotional support, we strive to create a nurturing environment where families can find the resources and connections they need to navigate the journey of raising children with disabilities.

What are Family Empowerment Centers (FECs)?

Family Empowerment Centers (FECs) provide training and information to families of children and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 3 and 22 in California. These nonprofit organizations offer specialized training, peer-to-peer support, information and referral services. They assist parents to better understand their child’s educational and developmental needs, effectively communicate with service providers, serve as a resource for the IEP process, participate in school reform and improvement activities, promote alternative dispute resolution, and support positive relationships between parents and professionals. Services available through each FEC vary based on the needs of the community.
